Position overview

As Production Manager, you'll be responsible for the production process, including management of the Brewing and Packaging teams, to ensure high quality beer meets specification, schedule and budget requirements, consistently and safely. You'll work continuously to improve efficiencies within the production process, including cost, time and quality. Alongside Operations and Sales management, you'll lead the development and implementation of new recipes, keeping up to date with the latest beer trends and techniques for creating cutting edge products. You'll maintain processes and records in line with the SALSA and other legislative requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

Production (Brewing & Packaging)

  • Day to day management of the brewery team including delegating and managing their workload, ensuring recipes and processes are followed accordingly and accurately and that beers are produced within all parameters. 
  • Working with the production team to ensure in demand beers are available and all beers are released on schedule. 
  • Working with the Operations and Sales Management to ensure beer concepts are translated into effective recipes that meet all specifications.
  • Maintaining the brewhouse and other equipment to an extremely high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in line with SALSA accreditation. 
  • Routine maintenance of brewhouse equipment as required.
  • Reviewing beer status during fermentation and conditioning phases for future recipe adjustments.
  • Coordinating with production and supply chain team to ensure ingredients, chemicals and other consumables are in stock to meet brew schedule, including FIFO stock rotation. 

Quality & Compliance

  • Completion of brewsheets and records in the Breww software, as required on schedule. 
  • Assessing the quality of the brew throughout the brewing process, both empirical and sensory. Ensuring all brews are produced according to the recipe, with all parameters within tolerances from brew day to carbonation with maximum consistency ensuring the highest quality for every beer produced. 
  • Monitoring the quality of ingredients and suggesting improvements where available.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment.
  • The employee is responsible for both their own safety and for the safety of others.
  • Maintaining safety and hygiene records throughout the brewery.

Development & Improvement

  • Demonstrate a philosophy of continual improvement, constantly looking for ways to improve efficiency and quality. 
  • Supporting and contributing to the development of lesser experienced members of the brewery team, training and supervising as required.
  • Keep abreast of beer trends, technologies, ingredients and processes to continually improve product quality, innovation and production efficiencies. 
  • Be involved in the generation of new beer ideas, formulation and improvement of existing recipes.
  • Be actively involved in the scaling up of operations to meet desired business growth.

 

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have a formal brewing qualification at Degree or Masters level, or equivalent experience demonstrated.
  • Have a minimum of 8-10 years professional brewing experience.
  • The ability to lead and develop a team, work independently and cooperatively, and to deadlines.
  • Be organised, with attention to detail, and good numeric and analytical skills 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of QHSE, hygiene and brewery specific standards including HACCP.
  • Be able to drive improvement and innovation.
  • Have a license and experience in the operation of pallet trucks and forklifts.

A full UK driving license is desirable.

 

Salary negotiable dependent on experience.
